Persepolis and Ratatouille share “Best Animation” award on LAFCA 2007 (Los Angeles Film Critics Association, which is comprised of Los Angeles-based, professional film critics working in the Los Angeles print and electronic media).

HandMade, the film rights and production company, reported yesterday that New Line Cinema, the multi-media company that is behind some of the most successful film franchises in history, had acquired the US distribution rights for the $60 million (£29 million) CGI animation feature ‘Planet 51’ from HandMade.
In March 2007, HandMade joined Madrid-based Ilion Animation Studios as the UK production partner and worldwide sales agent for the studio’s first animation film, Planet 51.
Planet 51, which was written by Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Joe Stillman, writer of Shrek and Shrek 2, is currently in production and will be completed and theatrically released in 2009.
Firstshowing.net has some concept art from AstroBoy, and a nice interview with its director Colin Brady. The movie is aiming for a 2009 release.

Director Tim Burton has signed a two-picture deal with his longtime studio, Disney , that will see him direct and produce 3-D movies of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and a remake of his short Frankenweenie.
The Alice adaptation will be a combination of live-action and performance-capture animation, while Frankenweenie will be shot in stop-motion animation.

A few days ago, the new Appleseed movie was shown in Japan. It’s the sequel to the Appleseed movie of 2004. Appleseed comic was originally created by Shirow Masamune back in 1985.
