Neil Blevins creates a unique Sci-fi 3D/2D hybrid artwork depicting creatures, robots and alien landscapes. He has been one of the Brazil Renderer testers at Blur Studio (where it was originally developed) and now works as a Technical Director for Pixar Animation Studio. We start the day with a new making of from 3DTotal; Francois Rimasson talks about his image “Birth”, used in the launch of ZBrush 3. The tutorial guides you step by step, and allows you to create a whole scene with Zbrush 3 from scratch, to sculpt texture and finally render it. It is an extensive tutorial (11 pages), featuring Transpose, ZSpheres, SubTools, and Mesh Extraction.

3DTotal has started a Mudbox video tutorial series, which will cover the modeling of a character for games. The series is broken into five parts as shown below:
Part 1 - “Applying Colour to the Concept Art”
Part 2 - “Basic 3dsmax Techniques”
Part 3 - “Creating a Base Model”
Part 4 - “Sculpting the General Anatomy”
Part 5 - “Retopologising the Model”
This is the first video in these series of video lessons teaching people how to create a video game character. This video deals with the basics of coloring your concept art, and it is a bit over 10 minutes long. The workflow includes 3ds Max, PolyBoost, MudBox and Photoshop.

A few days ago, the new Appleseed movie was shown in Japan. It’s the sequel to the Appleseed movie of 2004. Appleseed comic was originally created by Shirow Masamune back in 1985. This movie is produced by John Woo and directed by Shinji Aramaki. View the trailer here, or click the image to go to the website. The Animation Picture Co. has announced that it has acquired the screen rights from Sierra Ent. and Vivendi Games to SPYRO THE DRAGON.
APC will base the CG feature on the recent LEGEND OF SPYRO trilogy of games. Steve and Dan Altiere (DR. DOOLITTLE 4) will write the script. APC’s Dan Chuba, John Davis, Mark Dippe, Brian Manis and Ash Shah are the producers. APC is looking for a director.
Debuting in 1998, the SPYRO franchise has sold more than 20 million units globally, earning over $525 million.

CAPCOM and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan have announced coproduction of “BIOHAZARD: Degeneration”, the first full-length CG animation feature based upon the BIOHAZARD series of games and movies(remember BIOHAZARD is internationally titled Resident Evil). It is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying release in 2008.

Jack Black, from the cast in Kung Fu Panda, talks and jokes on this funny video where you can see some clips from the movie itself. Kung Fu Panda is scheduled to arrive to cinemas on June 6, 2008, from Dreamworks, creators of Shrek movies.

Yesterday night, closing Art Futura, has been celebrated the awards ceremony. CG-Node has been awarded as the best spanish 3D forum/community of 2007. We are very proud of receiving this award, but it’s just the users who really won it. To all of them, I want to say thanks from here(since I know that many of you read this blog).
